Data warehouse Solution for a leading Procurement Service Provider in Netherlands

Data Warehouse Solution

The Clients

The client is a leading procurement service provider in Netherlands. The client works with E-Procurement software that has extremely complex transactional database with more than 1000 tables normalized to the fifth form. The client works with many respected buying organizations who have a very complex buying behavior and want to monitor their purchasing behavior for a better spend management.

The Challenge

Due to a complex data model and ever growing transactional, the client was facing problems in:
  • Getting easy access to accurate information.
  • Getting quick response time.
  • Obtaining an organizational view of performance collating information across multiple transaction systems for the buying organization.
  • Having an end-to-end integrated view across the procure to pay process to improve efficiency and effectiveness in spent.
  • Maintaining the historical data for accurate projections and forecasting.

The Solution

To improve this situation, it was decided to implement an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) solution that collects information from the numerous transaction applications and provides a single window for information access.

Eperium, after an assessment of the technical situation and the pressing business need of quick delivery of solutions, decided on a federated ROLAP architecture. However, explicit care was taken to ensure that the key dimensions were conformed to across the data marts.. The EDW is made up of a granular operational data store and a data warehouse.

The solution resulted in:
  • Enhanced spend control leading to reduced inventory and improved internal customer service.
  • Improved purchase management by more proactive purchase behavior tracking as compared to the inefficient reactive way of working.
  • Improved forecast accuracy.
  • Multi-dimensional analysis of the purchase behavior.

Tools

Developed using oracle warehouse builder, oracle 10 release 2, Business Objects.
